You moved the lines
char Serial_Command;
char StringToPrint[90];
into main() because these variables were accessed only locally.
As a side-effect the memory for the variables is taken from the stack space because main() is a function and allocation follows the &quot;automatic&quot; rules.
When the &quot;static&quot; attribute is applied here to both variables, the needed space would be allocated from ram as well, but the free stack space will not be affected. In a world of GB ram this is not worth talking about, but in (not at ;-) the embedded world this could be of concern when resources run short.
